BRENT HARING Baseball Camps

Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field

Ben Meyer Diamond

Ray E. Didier Field has been home to the Nicholls baseball since the university began playing the sport on the intercollegiate level in 1960. The facility is named in honor of Raymond E. Didier, head Colonel baseball coach from 1964–1973, and Nicholls athletic director from 1963–1978. In honor of the late Ben Meyer, the addition of Ben Meyer Diamond was introduced on May 7, 2017. Ben Meyer Diamond features Geo-Surfaces artificial turf in the infield and foul territory. That renovation also included a brand new elevator that connects to the press box. The ballpark seats 3,200, featuring chair back seating and a berm behind the right-field wall. The team’s covered batting cage is located directly adjacent to the field, along the third base line.

In the summer of 2016, Ray E. Didier Field underwent a dramatic transformation. The previous press box was relocated to the Nicholls Soccer Complex, and replaced with a brand new state-of-the-art press box. The new facility features two luxury suites with plush seating and flat screen TVs, two radio booths, a press room and visiting media room, as well as a concession stand located at ground level. The project also added new stadium lighting.

Phase two of the Colonels baseball project includes a new field house with a rooftop hospitality area, new locker rooms, coaches offices and public restrooms. The project also includes an elevator, upgraded, unified dugout-to-dugout bleachers and 400 chair back seats.

The Colonel Athletic Association is currently fundraising for phase three of the project, which includes an elegant new wrought iron gated entryway, a new plaza area and new video board, as well as upgrades to the coaches’ committee cooking area.

An underground irrigation system allows for efficient drainage and keeps the playing surface in a consistent outstanding condition.

Ray E. Didier Field is located adjacent to the Frank Barker Athletic Building, which houses the majority of the Nicholls athletic staff. The Colonels strength and conditioning facility is also located directly behind Barker Hall.

Nicholls joined the Southland Conference in 1992 and won the league championship in 1998. The Colonels have made three NCAA appearances, most recently in 1998.
